Production of PBT textile fiber for,earliest began in the late 1970 s and early 80 s in Japan and the United States.In 1979 Japan Teijin company firstly introduced a PBT fibre products - Sumola,the use value as fiber gradually known by people.Besides also included FINECELL of teijin,ARTLON of coke lili and WONDERON of unitika and so on,at that time,the output is very few,each company's annual sales is between 500 ~ 600t.At present,Japan toray co., Ltd. is a main supplier in Asia.Celanese company is the main producer of PBT and fiber in America,it is reported that the fiber production has reached 15000t in 1984.In regard to the development and the application of PBT fiber,manufacturers in Japan and the United States have different focus.PBT fiber of Japan is mainly used for bathrobe and girls close-fitting underwear and pantyhose,raw material is given priority to with fine yarn;And the American celanese company's products are mainly for elastic jeans and sportswear,the main raw material is the fine filament (56-78 dtex or higher).

For a long time,in view of PBT fiber strength is not very high, and dark dyeing technology development lags behind,so until the 1990 s,PBT fiber re-enter some foreign producers (including toray, teijin,Hoechst,etc.)development list.
